I don't know about you all but once in a while i miss all those Namgunga hymns we sang at assembly, mass etc anyone still has a copy of the the hymn book. I will not be suprised if someone like Maria or Idush still has the hymn book somewhere, anyway
Some of my old time favorates
1. And the father will dance
2.Blest be the lord
3.Don't worry about food or what you are to wear-In all honesty does anyone do that?
4-this one was like the anthem for fairwell s'4 and s'6- God be with you till we meet again, till we meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet till we meet God be with you till we meet again-and all lala's would be crying.
5-this one was sad- Nearer my God to thee.
Anyways just thought i would go down that memory line.

Penny dearest,
If you google hymns, or sing and pray there's a hymn book that will appear with recent, modern and ancient hymn - guess what song you'll find : ) google is one of life's most amazing search engines honest.
That's really besides the point today i'm reading the news, trying to call home every chance i get - I hope you are well. Everyone here is praying for you all.

Patricia,
You definitely need to post "and the father will dance"...
...it's getting me all nostalgic!!! Amazing, I've NEVER heard those hymns anywhere after NGA. Now, were these hymns specifically written for the school to improvise for the luck of radios, and to give us an opportunity to shake what our mama's gave us (if any - for my case)???
Of course there was an exception to the rule, the likes of Maria, Bazzexs and Patricia sneaked in walk-man radios. Bazzexs that battery charger came in handy, considering the price of ever-ready batteries. Maria, it was questionable how you always had a supply of those batteries!!!
Hahaha!!!
Was that Bijjuks listening to Rick Dees top 40 in S.5 Upper hostel laundry every Saturday?

Okay people, let me shame all of you (and mind you i also have no hymn book, this is off head)..... AND THE FATHER WILL DANCE X2, AS ON THE DAY OF JOY X2
HE WILL EXAULT OVER YOU AND RENEW YOU WITH HIS LOVE, HE WILL RENEW YOU BY HIS LOVE!!!!!!
Sorry i only recall the chorus (or is it the refrain?) Jackie, am sure can supply the verses.
Now as for the hymns, my personal favourite these days is 'Wake up my people, wake up give a shout' just beacuse it reminds me of the way it was always strategically chosen as the opening hymn for those early morning daily masses, when majority of us were still in SLEEP Mode. Please remind me, why did we have to attend that daily mass yet nobody forced us to wake up and go there? Another of our 'goodie-good' stunts right? No wonder we wormed our way into the old lady(Capui)'s heart.
Bambi, those were days.
Eva.
PS Lubulwa is with International Hospital Kampala, i have run into her a number of times at their KPC clinic. By the way, she's no longer Francis as we knew her back then, she's now Dr.Claire. -

"Wake up my people, wake up give a shout, wake up my people know what life's about and - wake up to the needs of all the ones who suffer sorrow..."
Maria has that jogged your memory? It was actually a funky song

Dear gals, this wake up song eludes me. Maybe the song didn't wake me up. We actually sang a song with the words "wake up my people, know what life is about?"

wake up my people, wake up ...that's as far as i can go but I do remember we sang that song - Maria dig real hard you'll remember it - it was quite something.
I've googled and re-googled i'm not sure how i'd done it but I will keep at it until I find that sight - there's on specific to these songs - but I only checked for and the father will dance.
Someone somewhere must have a hymn book or a cousin, niece (i doubt daughter : ) in Nga who has access to a hymn book - anyone?

I remember singing this song at Mass at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Madison Wisconsin. I once wrote to ask for the lyrics to one of those hymns, and they sent them to me!
Wake up my people.
Wake up, give a shout!
Wake up my people.
Know what life's about!
And wake up to the needs of all the ones who suffer sorrow.
Wake up promise now to do your best to change tomorrow.
Wake up my people.
And open every door.
Wake up my people.
Live life loving ever more!
I expect that there was more to this song than I remember. Another one was:
Chorus:
Pause awhile. Pause awhile.
In the humdrum of the city or behind the cloistered wall.
Early in the morning or when shadows start to fall.
See creation bending to the maker of it all.
And you have to do is pause awhile.
Verse:
Men were made to build the earth
And share it with eachother.
When you recieve Jesus your Christ
You receive your brother!
Chorus repeats.
A third one I can't remember all of is:
Man of mercy, man of woe,
Don't you know that God loves you so,
And is love, love!
That's all
